Glen Lyon is a Small Batch Scottish Coffee Roaster we wanted to share with our friends from around the globe, here is the back story :
Coffee Roasting started back in 2011 in a Bothy at the top of Glenlyon, one of the most beautiful glens in the Scottish Highlands. After several winters spent digging lorry deliveries out of snowdrifts on a single track road the roastery was moved lock, stock and barrel to Aberfeldy, a cool little town on the banks of the River Tay. Here some of the world’s finest beans are roasted up on a much loved Probat.
GLEN LYON WORK CLOSELY WITH FARMERS AND CO-OPERATIVES IN MORE THAN 12 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD.
The specialist arabica beans are typically shade grown at between 1400-2000m above sea level and hand-picked when ripe. The beans are seasonal and a number of the coffees are also organically certified.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SOUND ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES ARE CENTRAL TO THE BUSINESS.
Glen Lyon pay substantially over fair trade prices for our speciality beans and love the fact that they can trace the coffee all the way back to the individual farmer who grew it and travel to origin as much as possible to build long lasting relationships the producers.
COMMITTED TO ZERO WASTE.
As well as recycling they donate coffee chaff (a by-product of roasting) to chicken farms and send any long dated coffee to Fair Share Charity, for distribution to homeless centres across Scotland.
