British industrial designer Tom Dixon's career began with motorbikes. Welding skills developed for bike maintenance led to experiments with scrap materials, and Dixon's interest in readymade forms and industrial processes resulted in a furniture and lighting design career that took off after his award-winning "S" chair hit the market in 1989. Dixon's principles of functionality and modernism carry over into his collaborative capsule collection for adidas, conceived of as a survival kit for spontaneous travel. A week's worth of unisex, transformable pieces are designed to efficiently adapt to any country, weather forecast, or set of circumstances.
